STATEMENT
What would you eat for your last meal on Earth?
It's a question I'm obsessed with asking – and one that has become the foundation of my art practice. Through collage on paper I break down and repurpose mundane nourishment into something indulgent and celebratory: hand-rendered patterns, elaborate tablescapes, and layered nostalgia reassembled into scenes that live somewhere between feast and elegy.
My still-life work draws from the Dutch vanitas tradition, using the language of indulgence, overflowing tables, isolated objects, the theater of a final dining experience, to explore what we consume, what consumes us, and what we leave behind. I navigate the space between living and dying, celebration and reflection, the occasional and the mundane. The magic, for me, lives exactly in between.
I came to a fascination with these themes through the loss of my father to alcoholism – a profound confrontation with mortality that left me asking hard questions about indulgence, restraint, fulfillment, and the transient nature of life. Through elaborate, intimate tablescapes that evoke occasion, I invite viewers to sit with that tension: to feel the nostalgia, savor the richness, and reckon with the fragility of the line between the spoils of our own joy.
